Guy V. Lewis to be Inducted into the Hall of Fame
Former UH head basketball coach Guy V. Lewis will be inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame Nov. 18 in Kansas City, Mo. Lewis, with 592 career wins, led the Cougars to 14 NCAA tournaments, five Final Four appearances, two NCAA championship games and 27 straight winning seasons. He received two National Coach of the Year awards and coached three of the NBA’s 50 Greatest Players (Hakeem Olajuwon, Elvin Hayes and Clyde Drexler).
UH Diver Earns All-America Honors at NCAA Championships
University of Houston sophomore Anastasia Pozdniakova finished as the NCAA national runner-up
on the 3-meter springboard and captured fifth place on the 1-meter board to earn All-America honors in both events. Junior Ginni van Katwijk finished second in the consolation finals of platform diving during the 2007 NCAA Championships at the University Aquatic Center.
The Cougars ended the meet with a 23rd-place finish in the team standings. It marked the seventh consecutive season that the Cougars finished among the top 25 team leaders at the NCAA Championships.
The Cougar divers are under the leadership of Jane Figueiredo, who recently was named the C-USA Diving Coach of the Year for the sixth consecutive season. Now in her 17th season as the head diving coach, Figueiredo has led 23 divers to the NCAA Championships.
