Texas Bowl Bound

For the third consecutive year and the fourth time in the last five seasons, the University of Houston football team is going bowling—as participants in the 2007 Texas Bowl.

The Cougars, who finished the season with an 8-4 (6-2 in C-USA) record, will clash with an old foe, the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs. And the most intriguing part of this year’s postseason action is the location—Houston.

After recent bowl appearances in Hawaii, Fort Worth and Memphis, UH fans will not have to venture too far away from the University of Houston campus this year to cheer on the Coogs. The 2007 Texas Bowl will be played at Reliant Stadium on Friday, December 28, at 7 p.m. The game will also be televised nationally on the NFL Network.

“We are so pleased to have the Cougars in the Texas Bowl this season, and we look forward to hosting them and their fans at Reliant Stadium,” said Texas Bowl director David Brady. “With over 50,000 tickets already sold for the game, this is a great chance for a lot of Houston football fans to see an exciting hometown team. It is also a great chance for Cougar fans and alumni to experience their team in a great bowl game without having to leave Houston.”

The bowl matchup between UH and TCU will be the 25th meeting in the history of the two schools. Overall, the University of Houston is 7-9-1 in bowl games. The Cougars’ first bowl appearance was a 26-21 win over Dayton in the 1952 Salad Bowl in Phoenix, Ariz. Last season, UH fell 44-36 to South Carolina in a thrilling AutoZone Liberty Bowl in Memphis, Tenn.

Come cheer for the Cougars and meet your 2007 Cougar football team! The UH marching band, cheerleaders, and Cougar Dolls will be there to get us into the Cougar spirit, and there will be commemorative posters for player autographs, lots of UH giveaways, complimentary snacks, and a cash bar. No RSVP or entrance fee.

Cougar Spirit Zone: Tailgate Party

Reliant Stadium - Blue Lot
Join UH students, alumni and fans to tailgate before the Texas Bowl at the Cougar Spirit Zone, located in Reliant Stadium’s Blue Lot (next to TexFest). Enjoy "Cougar wraps," gumbo, snacks and giveaways including rally towels and pom poms! Plan to BYOB. Beverages will also be available for purchase at TexFest. Cougar face painting will be available for the kids, and the UH marching band will come by for a performance too. No RSVP or entrance fee.
