UH Alumni in State and Federal Government
A number of elected officials at the state and federal levels are graduates of UH System universities. With the Texas Legislature in session, you will be interested in knowing who they are and what degrees they hold. Check out the list at www.houston.edu/gov/state/80/elected_officials.html.
University of Houston System administrators testified before the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Education on Friday, February 9, and before the Senate Finance Committee on Tuesday, February 13. You can watch House testimonies here , and Senate testimonies here.

All Aboard the Cougar Express
Support students, higher education, and the University of Houston by joining Cougar Advocates for Texas (CATs) on Tuesday, February 20 for UH System Day in Austin as they advance the UH mission with our state legislators.
It’s a great way to show your Cougar Pride in Austin! Sign up now and show up at the UH campus bright and early on February 20th at 6:30 a.m. wearing your professional Cougar red to board the buses to Austin and you’ll be back by 7:30 p.m.
The purpose of CATs, an advocacy group that was launched by the Houston Alumni Organization in 1998, is to encourage, support, and coordinate alumni activities on behalf of higher education in the state of Texas. Members establish and maintain relationships with their elected officials, placing the “face” of a constituent on decisions affecting the University of Houston.
In addition to participating in activities for UH System Day in Austin, CATs members stay informed about important issues affecting UH year-round and call, write, visit, or e-mail their legislators about those issues.
For more information about CATs or to sign up for the UH Day in Austin, visit www.mycougarconnection.org/cats.
UH Magazine is a ‘Welcome’ for Alumni!
UH President Jay Gogue said it best in the latest issue of The University of Houston Magazine: “It has never been more appropriate to say 'Welcome Back.'” In the just-released Spring 2007 issue, take a visual tour of the new Welcome Center, meet four of our phenomenal professors, and learn how one professor uses computer technology for early detection of heart attacks.
We’ve put out the welcome mat, so it’s your turn to take a walk inside… Submit your recent accomplishments, update your address/information, send a letter to the editor or give us feedback on a particular story. Better yet, take this opportunity to tell us about how UH was when you were a student (and we’ll tell you how the university has changed in the “Remember When” section). And most importantly, tell us what you think of the Spring 2007 issue! View the online version at www.uh.edu/magazine.
