Charles E. Henry
College of Pharmacy
College Business Administrator

Charles H. Henry

When it comes to work ethic, Charles Henry is strictly old school. Staying late on weekdays and working on weekends when necessary, Henry, College of Pharmacy business administrator, does what it takes to get the job done. Such traits have helped the Houston native garner numerous accolades during his professional career, but he has never been one to boast. Henry credits his traditional values with keeping him grounded and focused on helping UH reach new heights.

“I’ve always been taught that a person needs to put in a good day’s work to earn an honest day’s pay,” says Henry, who joined the UH staff in 1979 as an accounting specialist for the Division of Research.

For a time, he was the financial coordinator for the College of Optometry before making his home at the College of Pharmacy in 1985.

Henry’s dedication to UH extends beyond the College of Pharmacy. He guided the reigns of UH’s Staff Council for two consecutive terms (1998-2000). Shortly after being elected council president for an unprecedented third term (2005-2006), Henry was named the 2005 recipient of the Charles F. McElhinney Distinguished Service Award, UH’s highest staff award.

Currently, Henry serves as the immediate past president of the UH Staff Council and was elected last fall as inaugural chair of the newly established University System Staff Executive Council (USSEC). USSEC is a system-wide organization that represents the staff of the University of Houston System.

Even after 28 years at UH, Henry doesn’t plan on slowing down anytime soon. He continues to give his all to the university by serving on numerous committees and managing a challenging workload in the office. In short, Henry thrives on keeping busy, particularly if he knows the end result benefits UH and the College of Pharmacy.

“It’s always better to effect positive changes through participation than it is through observation,” Henry said. “I believe in doing my part to help make changes at UH that will benefit everyone.”
