UH Breaks Ground on Michael J. Cemo HallUH BREAKS GROUND ON
MICHAEL J. CEMO HALL
Earlier this month, the University of Houston celebrated the groundbreaking for yet another new addition to campus, Michael J. Cemo Hall. The 33,000 square-foot facility will house Bauer College’s rapidly growing Global Business Minor program and the Rockwell Career Center. The two-story building will have classrooms, a lecture hall and auditorium.   more

UH Hilton College to Receive $12 Million Hotel Renovation
The Hilton University of Houston Hotel and Conference Center is getting a facelift. A $12 million facelift! Through a consulting services agreement with Hilton Hotels, the Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management is redeveloping the existing hotel property into a state-of-the-art hotel and conference center that, upon completion, will provide hospitality students studying at the top-ranked College with a new training facility and enhanced experiential learning program that is second to none.  more

UH WIND POWER TESTING SITE GETS GREEN LIGHT
The University of Houston has completed an agreement with the Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) to design, construct and operate a state-of-the-art wind turbine blade testing facility at Ingleside, Texas.  more

OFFICE MAKEOVER UNDERWAY AT HAO Recent visitors to the Athletics/Alumni Center likely noticed that the front door to the alumni office has moved—but only temporarily. All the shuffling, debris and noise are part of a renovation that will update the aesthetics and functionality of the Houston Alumni Organization’s wing of the building. Renovations will be completed in July.  more

Temple H. WeissALUMNUS NAMED EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT,
CFO OF LA QUINTA
Temple H. Weiss (M.H.M. ’96) was recently named executive vice president and chief financial officer of LQ Management L.L.C., better known as La Quinta. The UH alumnus and loyal Houston Alumni Organization member has more than 15 years of experience in the hospitality industry and joined La Quinta in 2001. more

2008 UH HALL OF HONOR INDUCTEES NAMED Saluting its rich history and tradition, University of Houston Director of Athletics Dave Maggard recently announced that nine former Cougar standouts and one great team will be inducted into the UH Hall of Honor this fall. The Hall of Honor gala will take place on Friday, November 15, at the Hyatt Regency Houston. The Class of 2008 includes a record-breaking quarterback, a three-time golf All-American, a basketball legend that played for the Harlem Globetrotters, two Olympic medalists, an All-American shortstop and a current NFL head coach.  more

Kevin SumlinCOUGARS TO DEBUT COACH'S TELEVISION SHOW
University of Houston Athletics, in conjunction with its multi-media rights holder partner ISP Sports, recently announced the creation of a television coach's show to air on Channel 55 on Saturday mornings this fall. Cougar Gameday will debut on August 30, with first-year head coach Kevin Sumlin alongside the "Voice of the Cougars" Tom Franklin.  more

Xiuli Wang Xiuli Wang (Ph.D. ‘2000) originally left China in 1995 to pursue a doctoral degree at the University of Houston because she was intrigued by the American graduate education system. Today, Wang manages to utilize that same curiosity to excel in the petroleum engineering industry as vice president of technology for start-up company XGASl. more
