Edwards Has Surgery to Repair Broken Leg
University of Houston freshman wide receiver Patrick Edwards underwent surgery to repair a broken leg suffered while playing Conference USA rival Marshall in Huntington, W.Va. Edwards suffered a compound fracture of his right leg midway through the third quarter during the Cougars' 37-23 loss to the Thundering Herd. While attempting to catch a touchdown pass, the Hearne, Texas, native collided at full speed with metal carts placed just outside the back of the end zone.He was immediately taken to a local hospital where doctors placed a rod in his right leg. During his first collegiate season, Edwards emerged as one of the team's leading receivers, posting 46 catches and a team-high 634 yards with four touchdowns. With 86.3 receiving yards per game, Edwards ranked among the nation's top-30 leaders while his reception and yardage totals ranked among UH's top two all-time freshman single-season leaders.
