DNA SEQUENCER TO BOOST GENETIC RESEARCH AT UH
Not too long ago, deconstructing and analyzing DNA codes took scientists several years and enough chemistry and computer hardware to fill the entire floor of a building. Now, a genetic sequencer the size of a washing machine can do the work in a couple of days.  more

Judge Reece RondonUH ALUMNUS HONORED BY JAYCEES
Judge Reece Rondon ('92, J.D. '95), of the 234th District Court of Harris County, was recently named by the Houston Jaycees as one of the Five Outstanding Young Houstonians for 2007. He was also selected as one of the Five Outstanding Young Texans by the Texas Jaycees. The awards are based on extraordinary achievements in community service, business, the arts, politics, and athletics. Rondon is very active throughout the Houston community and currently serves as a Houston Alumni Organization board member.  more

Dion DowellUH MEN’S AND WOMEN’S BASKETBALL WIN SEASON OPENERS Senior forward Dion Dowell scored a career-high 25 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead the University of Houston men’s basketball team to an 83-54 win over Morehead State in the Cougars’ season opener on November 9 at Hofheinz Pavilion.  more

Justine FarmerUH VOLLEYBALL CLAIMS REGULAR SEASON FINALE In their second straight match, the University of Houston volleyball team played five games before defeating the Tulsa Golden Hurricane at the Athletics Alumni Center. Houston defeated Tulsa with scores of 30-24, 23-30, 26-30, 30-25 and 15-9.  more

Hortensia Stripling As the first member of her family to attend college, Hortensia Stripling (’86) was destined to take the unconventional route. Young and ambitious, Stripling enrolled at the University of Houston back in 1978, but could only attend classes on a part-time basis due to a lack of financial support.  more
