Houston Alumni Organization Offers
Old Traditions, New Beginnings. The theme of Homecoming 2008 promises the annual, beloved events that make up the week’s core, plus a little something extra. The Houston Alumni Organization is proud to offer both. Now in its second year, the Homecoming Tailgate Challenge – November 8 from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m., just before the football game – pits alumni groups from various colleges, areas, and special interests against each other in a friendly battle of barbeque, spirit, and scholarship fundraising supremacy. Winners will be named in all three categories, in addition to a Grand Champion designation. Winners in 2007 included TKE Network/School of Communication Alumni Association (best food), UH Band Alumni (most spirited), Engineering Alumni Association (most community spirit), and Fort Bend Club/Technology Alumni Association (Grand Champion). This year’s twist? Alumni receive a “Power of Red” wristband for every $10 donated to their group’s scholarship fund. The group with the highest scholarship donation total, along with the winners in the other categories, will be announced at halftime during the football game. With more than 180,000 alumni, $10 donations add up quickly. Let’s put the “Power of Red” into action and help our students! There’s no need to let the fun end on Saturday. Join the alumni organization for our 26th Annual Homecoming Golf Tournament on Monday, November 10 at Pecan Grove Plantation Country Club. Entry costs $150 ($600 for a foursome) and includes green fee, golf cart, driving range access, two mulligans, box lunch, course refreshments, dinner, tournament gift, and much more. Registration closes November 3, so hurry! And of course, don’t forget to check out our many sponsorship levels. Imagine your name or your company’s name associated with 10-days of campuswide celebration! Old Traditions, New Beginnings. We promised them; now come and get them, Cougars.
