QB is Record Breaker

Midway through the 2006 football season, quarterback Kevin Kolb continues to impress.

The four-year starter has thrown for 11,888 yards (a school record) and 72 touchdowns in his UH career. He ranks first among Division 1-A active career leaders in passing yards, total offense, passing completions, and consecutive starts. These astounding statistics have not gone unnoticed. The Sporting News named Kolb Preseason C-USA Offensive Player of the Year, the Maxwell Award placed him on their watch list, and several publications list him as a Heisman Trophy candidate.

NFL draft expert Mel Kiper expects professional teams to take notice: “Kevin is a smart, tough kid who has an NFL arm. If he continues to make progress and put up the numbers, he could easily be one of the top four quarterbacks for the 2007 NFL Draft.”

But Kolb isn’t thinking that far ahead. He and the rest of the team have their eyes set on a C-USA championship. Several publications have picked the Coogs to win their division, and with just one conference loss, prospects look good.

Come out to Robertson Stadium and see what all the hype is about.

He's a Sport, All Right

Former UH basketball player Rodney Hannah has left the hardcourt to join Coach Art Briles and the 2006 football team.

At Roseville High School in California, Hannah earned First-Team, All-Conference honors in both basketball and football. Faced with the tough decision of choosing a single sport to play in college, he landed on the Yuba College basketball team where he was named First-Team, All-Bay Valley Conference.

His combination of size and athleticism caught the eye of Coach Tom Penders, and Hannah signed in 2004 to play basketball for UH. Under Penders, Hannah showed flashes of tremendous potential—including a 16- rebound performance against #17 Louisville—but he wasn’t happy.

“Football was always in the back of my mind. I missed it," said Hannah. "I was friends with some of the [football] players, and they encouraged me to come out for the team. I spoke with Coach Penders and was just honest with him. He understood, and even spoke to Coach Briles on my behalf.”

Hannah’s 6’8, 245-pound, surprisingly agile frame is well-suited to the tight end position. He presents a sizeable, over-the-middle target that has kept defenses honest all season long.
