Consider Yourself Invited
It’s quite possibly the worst-kept
secret in 60-plus years. Kicking off October 30, the university’s
2006 Homecoming Celebration has a snazzy title—Pride of a
Cougar—and a renewed emphasis on welcoming back and reconnecting
alumni, students, faculty, and staff.
“This year's Homecoming will engage
Cougars of all ages,” says Katie Kalenda (’99, M.A.
’03), alumni chair. “From tailgating to participating
in community service projects, creative educational programs, or
alumni reunions and tours, every Cougar can feel pride—and
be re-connected to the university.
A how-to guide:
For starters, take the pulse of your alma mater at President Gogue’s
State of the University Address Friday morning, then do a little
research of your own at Lunch and all that Jazz, sponsored by the
Houston Alumni Organization. Besides featuring delicious food and
great music from Moores School of Music students, the luncheon will
honor graduates of the classes of 1956 and 1981, and other faithful
Cougar volunteers and supporters.
Golden Cougars—graduates of ‘56 or earlier—will
gather at an Ice Cream Social Friday afternoon at the Houston Alumni
Organization office. Interviewers will be on hand to record their
stories and memories of their time at UH.
On Saturday, channel your inner Cougar at the everyone’s-invited
Pride of a Cougar Tailgate, then cheer your heart out for the Coogs
as they battle the University of Tulsa Golden Hurricane.
Not a football fan? Not to worry. Connect with your college—many
are hosting reunions, lectures, etc.—or take a campus tour
instead. Click on the link for the complete Homecoming schedule.
