Alridge
Named To Doak Walker Award Watch List
University
of Houston senior running back Anthony Alridge was recently named
to another prestigious watch list, this time being selected a Doak
Walker Award candidate. Alridge, who is also on the Walter Camp Award
watch list, scored receiving and rushing touchdowns for the second
straight game last Saturday to lead UH to an impressive 34-10 win
over Conference USA rival Tulane. The
Doak Walker award is presented annually to the nation's top college
running back. Alridge led the nation last season with his 10.1 yards
per carry average, while rushing for 959 yards and eight touchdowns
on just 95 carries. A preseason selection to the Conference USA
First Team, Alridge posted four 100-yards games in 2006, including
225 against SMU on November 11.
The recipient of the 2007 Doak Walker Award
will be announced live on ESPN along with other NCFAA member awards
on The Home Depot College Football Awards on Dec. 6. The Doak Walker
Award Presentation Banquet will be held at The Hilton Anatole Hotel
in Dallas, Texas, on Feb. 15, 2008.
UH
Men’s Hoops Schedule Announced
The University of Houston announced its
2007-08
men's basketball schedule that includes non-conference home games
against perennial powerhouses Kentucky and Arizona, a trip to the
Puerto Rico Tip Off tournament and 16 Conference USA games featuring
home and home match-ups against Memphis, UTEP, Rice, UCF and SMU.
"This is the most attractive home schedule we have had when you
look at our conference and non-conference games," UH head coach
Tom Penders said. "I don't know of too many schools that play
two national powers in non-conference home games in the same year.
Then, when you look at the improvements of teams in our league, we
are playing some of the top Conference USA teams at home as well."
