1950s

Julio Fonseca (M.Ed. ’59) has written three books: The Best Two, A Beautiful Harvest, and The Blessed Pathway, all published within the past year.

Carolyn Moran (’54) has been named Washington County, Texas, Chamber of Commerce Woman of the Year. Moran and her husband, Dan Moran (’53), are members of the UH-Brenham Alumni Club.

C.F. Kendall II

C.F. Kendall II (’60) has been named CEO of the 100 Club. Kendall is a past board chair of the Houston Alumni Organization and a former regent. He is with the law firm of C.F. Kendall II & Associates, PC.

John N. Molbeck Jr. (’68) has been named chief operating officer and president of HCC Insurance, Inc.

Mike Weingart (’63), president of Carlson Wagonlit Travel/World Travel Agency, has been elected president of the Houston Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association.

Niels Aalund

Niels Aalund (’79) has joined West Gulf Maritime Association as vice president of maritime affairs.

Clyde Arnold (’71, M.A. ’73) has been appointed provost and vice president for academic affairs at Northern State University.

J. Raleigh Bailes (’70) has been appointed to the board of directors for Petro Resources Corporation.


Mike Brem

Mike Brem (’79, M.B.A. ’81, J.D. ’90) has been named partner in the law firm of Schirrmeister Diaz-Arrastia Brem, LLP.

Cynthia Oliver Coleman (’71) will be featured in the Extraordinary Women Engineers Project book, Changing Our World: True Stories of Women Engineers.

Ignacio Gomez-Tobar (’74), regional vice president and general manager of the Four Seasons Hotel Miami, delivered the first Eric Hilton Distinguished Lecture of 2006 at the UH Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management.

Kenneth J. Guidry (’77) has been named chairman of the Bauer College of Business Accountancy and Taxation Advisory Board.

William M. Handal (’70) has been named senior vice president of eastern drugstore region operations for Walgreen Co.

Gary W. Maler (’71) has been named the fifth director of the Real Estate Center at Texas A&M University.

Robert E. Meadows (J.D. ’77) has been elected managing partner of the Houston office for King & Spalding, an international law firm.

Gray H. Miller (’74, J.D. ’78) has been approved unanimously by the Senate Judiciary Committee to serve as U.S. district judge for the southern district of Texas.

Michael L. Nichols (O.D. ’77) has been appointed by Governor Matt Blunt to the Missouri State Board of Optometry. Nichols’ appointment is subject to Senate confirmation for a term ending on June 30, 2010.


Gordon Quan

Gordon Quan (M.Ed. ’73), former Houston City Council member, has opened a San Antonio branch of the Houston-based firm Quan Burdette & Perez, PC.

Steve Smelley (’78) has been elected to the Fort Bend Independent School District board of trustees.

Terry E. Swift (’79) has been named chairman of the Swift Energy Board of Directors.

Thomas Weatherford (’70) has been appointed to the board of directors for Mellanox Technologies, Ltd.

Ray Whittington (Ph.D. ’78) has been named dean of DePaul University’s undergraduate College of Commerce and its Kellstadt Graduate School of Business.

James Worrall (’78) has been appointed assistant vice president, contract sales, for SYSCO Corporation in Houston.

Welcome W. Wilson Sr. (’49)

It’s been more than fifty years since new UH System Regent Welcome W. Wilson Sr. has enjoyed his job so much.

Then he was a C.T. Bauer College of Business student serving as business manager of The Daily Cougar. Now, his commitment to UH will serve a broader purpose. “I look forward to serving as a regent to help us reach our greatest potential for the good of the city and the state.”

Jim Wise (’66)

Newly appointed UH System Regent Jim Wise knows business, and he knows Houston. The distinguished Bauer alumnus also is a member of the college’s Dean’s Executive Advisory Board. “Houston must be our strongest partner in developing new programs to ensure that UH and the UH System are able to deliver the education, research, and service this city needs.”
