The M.D.
Anderson Library and The Honors College
Expansion Project is an absolute dream—a
dream that would not have been possible without
the many great supporters of this wonderful project.
I am so proud of my university.

(’51)

It was
a single room in the Roy G. Cullen Building.
Now, more than fifty years later, the 527,000-square-foot
M.D. Anderson Library houses millions of books,
2,600 study spaces, and is the home of The Honors
College. “Today’s students would be
astonished—we didn’t have any of this
advanced equipment or wonderful space,” says
Belle Johnson (’51), library capital campaign
co-chair. “We didn’t even have windows!” Card
catalogs and old-fashioned typewriters have been
replaced by an electronic publications center with
350 computer workstations. Chalkboards, too, are
a thing of the past. There are classrooms equipped
with state-of-the-art technology, and wireless
Internet is accessible on every floor. No matter
how much it’s changed, the library remains
the heart of the campus, and students are still
encouraged to use their “library voices.”
