UH’s official student spirit group hopes to make some changes, like filling the stands at Robertson Stadium with a sea of red-and-white-clad students cheering the home team on to victory.“
All UH students are welcomed to join.
There are no prerequisites other than
being a Coog fan,” says president and
history/political science double major
Amir Befroui. Membership, usually
between $15 and $20, definitely has
its benefits. The Coog Crew organizes
various activities from tailgate parties
for home games to the annual fountain
jump—all in the name of increasing
school spirit.
The Coog Crew enjoys support from
UH alumni as well. During the 2007
football season, donations allowed the
Coog Crew to travel to the Southern
Methodist University game in Dallas
and purchase accommodations at no
cost to its members. Additionally, Fleet
Feet Sports owner Jim Braden (’73)
assists the crew by providing the official
Coog Crew t-shirts. “We truly appreciate
all the support the UH alumni have
given us,” says Befroui.
Created in 2005 by Steven Chiara (’07), the
Coog Crew enjoys a growing membership of about 175.
Through recruitment drives at student orientations and
an active campus presence, the crew hopes to pack the
stands at all UH athletic events this year. For more
