Last November, when the
UH System Board of Regents confirmed the appointment of
Renu Khator as chancellor and president, I described her
as having a keen intellect, a strategic vision, political
savvy, well-developed interpersonal skills, and great passion
for higher education.
In the months since she took office,
I have added “tremendous
ability to rally the university and the community in support
of our tier-one quest” and “a clear focus on
how to transform that commitment into action” to
the list of her extraordinary assets.
On the eve of her investiture, I
am more confident than ever that President Khator will
lead the University of Houston to its deserved place
of national prominence—a
twenty-first century institution recognized for its research,
excellent academic offerings, and above all, its mission
of student access and success.
