Joanna Price (’00) designed The Audrey Hepburn Treasures: Pictures and Mementos from a Life of Style and Purpose (Atria Books, Simon & Schuster). The book tells the remarkable story of the adored actress and humanitarian. In a unique and intimate way, it takes the reader through Hepburn’s life, from childhood experiences in Holland to her successful Hollywood career to her work on behalf of UNICEF. In addition, the book includes rare images and removable memorabilia, such as Hepburn’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s script with handwritten notes.
David Ray Vance’s (Ph.D. ’06) Vitreous (Del Sol Press) is a poetry collection that combines science and art. The collection exists in the vast distance between the body and the body perceived. Each poem makes alien both the form and function of our most essential organs through its innate understanding that we will succumb as easily to pollutants as we do to that caressing hand on our cheek.
The Spirit of Churchill (Avalon Press) by Deborah Davis Brezina (’74) is an historical account examining
the principles used by Churchill to combat the evils of Nazism. The author applies those same principles to the War on Terror and radical Islam in a post 9/11 world. She provides an inspiring portrait of a leader with unmatched conviction and courage who never gave up in the fight for what he believed was right.
In An Indian in Cowboy Country: Stories from an Immigrant’s Life (iUniverse, Inc.), Pradeep Anand (M.B.A. ’91) weaves a fictional tale of an India-born engineer who overcomes cultural differences to succeed in a big city. Anand’s stories illustrate how we cannot sacrifice our personal values to succeed in business or life, and how developing trusting relationships is the foundation of any success regardless of cultural background and experiences.
