The University of Houston had another outstanding academic year,
which culminated with the awarding of about 6,500 bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral, and professional degrees. These new graduates join our international alumni family in creating new legacies for their communities and for our university.
We continued building upon our legacies in academics, student life, and athletics. Our international partnerships expanded with the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Vietnam National University and Anna University in India. The University of Houston System Board of Regents approved our campus master plan that will guide our expansion over the next twenty years. Additional student housing is part of the master plan, and this year, we gave the go-ahead for a $100 million, mixed-use, multistory housing facility. In athletics, our Cougar football team captured the Conference USA title and returned to the Liberty Bowl in Memphis.
Many University of Houston alumni have established, and continue to establish, meaningful legacies, some of which we’ve highlighted in this issue. Inside, you’ll learn about our research programs that continue to improve our lives; we’ll look at the history of Lynn Eusan Park and the reasons why it remains a popular gathering place; and we’ll introduce you to a family of Cougars—men from a single family who played football at the University of Houston.
I hope you continue to share with your family and friends the great stories of incredible people doing incredible things at the University of Houston.
Susie and I send you our best wishes as we prepare for our move to Auburn University. Keep us in your thoughts and hearts, just as we will keep you in ours.
